Function of the Guidelines

These guidelines were developed by the University Council, based on a broad opinion-forming process, in the period 2000-2002; they were last updated by the Rectorate in the summer semester of 2010. They serve as a self-definition of the Mozarteum University Salzburg, now and for the future. The guidelines are intended to:

  • provide information on the fundamental objectives of the University
  • contribute to the identification of students, teachers and general staff at the Mozarteum University Salzburg
  • define the need for action as clearly as possible

Implementing the guidelines is the responsibility of all members of the Mozarteum University Salzburg. It is the responsibility of the university management to promote or demand appropriate measures to be implemented, to evaluate them regularly and, if necessary, to further develop the guidelines.

As an artistic, pedagogical and academic institution, the Mozarteum University Salzburg fulfills regional and international tasks in equal measure. These are distributed among the various departments and institutes dedicated to artistic disciplines and pedagogical/scholarly tasks, with 14 departments located in Salzburg and one in Innsbruck.

The Mozarteum University offers study programmes in music, performing arts and fine arts across ten sites - eight in Salzburg and two in Innsbruck. In addition to degree and diploma programmes, preparatory courses, postgraduate and part-time university courses or workshops are offered throughout the year. The summer vacation sees the arrival of young people from across the world to attend masterclasses at the International Summer Academy and summer courses at the Orff-Institute.
